RIYADH/CAIRO —
A series of attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement on southern Saudi Arabia has intensified tensions across the Middle East, with authorities reporting dozens of people injured and damage at energy-related facilities.
The attacks targeted several locations, including areas around Abha, Jazan, Najran and Khamis Mushait. Saudi authorities said at least 73 people were injured, including women and children. Fires were also reported at energy facilities following the strikes.
The latest escalation comes as the wider regional conflict continues to threaten energy supplies and shipping routes. The Strait of Hormuz and other important maritime corridors remain a major concern for global markets.
Oil prices also moved higher following the attacks, reflecting renewed fears that prolonged conflict could further disrupt supplies from the Gulf region.
The developments are being closely watched by governments around the world because further disruption in the Middle East could affect fuel prices, international trade and global economic growth.
